  • What happens on my first visit?
Your first appointment is likely to last approx. 1.5 hours and will involve a full consultation looking into any current and past medical conditions, lifestyle factors and general health and well-being. I will then make a diagnosis based on Chinese Medicine principles and this will guide which acupuncture points will be used. In addition to acupuncture I may also use other therapies such as cupping, moxibustion and electro to complement the needles and provide a deeper treatment.
  • Does it hurt?
The needles that are used for acupuncture are exceptionally fine and often you wont even feel them going in. However, it isn’t completely without sensation, and you may feel a fleeting dull ache or pulling feeling when the Qi is activated. Once the needles are in, Acupuncture, is incredibly relaxing.
  • How many treatments will I need?
It is difficult to say exactly how many treatments you will need without having a full consultation. As a rule, more acute conditions are much easier to treat and will need fewer sessions whereas chronic illnesses will require more. At your first appointment I can provide you with guidance on what treatment plan will be best for you.
  • Is it safe?
I am a member of the ATCM (Association of Traditional Chinese Medicine) which is one of the main self-regulatory bodies that govern the practice of Traditional Chinese Medicine in the UK. They ensure that all practices of hygiene and safety meet extremely high standards. Acupuncture needles are pre-sterilised, single use and discarded of after treatment.
  • Can children have acupuncture?
Yes, people of all ages can have treatment safely and effectively. Children under 18 years old will need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
  • What conditions can be treated?
Traditional Chinese Medicine works holistically on the whole person rather than addressing just symptoms and uses a diagnostic framework to identify which points will be most effective. Therefore, it is likely that acupuncture can help with almost any condition to some level. Some conditions do respond better than others to treatment so contact me to discuss what the best treatment might be for you.
